Radio and TV pRODUCTION

Radio production

As one of my production modules in university I had to create a documentary within my second and third year. The initial idea had to be created by me and then planned, refined, recorded and edited by me. The work created was all completed within a 13 week process.

This first piece was my final year piece that gained a first grade. As this was my final years work it had to be designed in such a manner that it would be identical to a professional production by a radio station. The idea had to have an initial stage were it had to be accepted by my tutor who would give it the go ahead for my to begin the planning stage on my production and begin lining up people for interviews. Then recording would commence and when it would be complete the editing would start and this is the final product. The title of this work is Marriage - From the New to the Old, which bases its theme on the differences and similarities of modern day marriage and an old marriage.

The second year radio production work that I had created was a similar process to my third year piece but more relaxed in the way that a lot of the work was to be made simple and generalised were as the third year work had to be very specific.

This work piece was about the firearm community within England.

TV production

TV production was a very practical heavy course that was very demanding but also very rewarding. Whilst working as a team we had to plan from start to finish using storyboards and managing weekly meeting so when it came to filming we were prepared and ready to film everything we needed within a day and progress onto editing once the filming had been concluded. Both projects had to go through strenuous risk assessments and all the planning had to be turned into our lecturers before any major progress could be continued. This was done in an effort so that we could have the knowledge of how projects like these were done in the professional world.

The first production was filmed by a group of five people including me but later individually edited, and we were graded on our group effort and editing techniques. The second production was created and planned by myself, and it was later filmed with some help of some of my course-mates.

As I mentioned in my intro page, the team that I joined for creating the music video, we had to research and book a local band to film, were as the documentary I was given a little more freedom on the topic.

For this I chose to base my documentary on card based games, both virtual and physical and named itThe World of Cards. The music video received a 1st grade and the documentary received a 2:2 grade.
